Customs duties are taxes imposed on goods brought into Kenya. It is paid at the port of entry on goods subject to taxation. Individuals are exempt from customs duty on their used personal effects and also have a concession of USD 500 on goods only for personal use. It is assessed based on the Customs value of the item that is the price actually paid or payable for the imported goods.

A penalty of two per cent per month or part thereof, of the unpaid amount is payable on the unpaid duty or late payment.
